Cavanagh’s of Fermoy was founded in 1919 by Mr. Tom Cavanagh Snr. The Company was awarded the Ford franchise in 1938. Mr Cavanagh’s son – also Tom – succeeded his father and continued to develop the Company. Indeed, up until his recent bereavement, Mr Cavanagh was still affectionally referred to as “the Boss” by some of the longer serving members of staff.

In 1997, Managing Director, Sean Barry led a management buyout of the Company and successfully relocated the Company from Ashe Quay to its current address on the Cork Road in 2000. Sean is now retired but remains a Director & Shareholder in the Company & General Manager, Frank Hogbin, succeeding him as Dealer Principal in 2021.

Along with directors, Frank has continued to develop and grow the business. Celebrating over 100 years trading in 2019 and now employing 36 staff, all from local communities ( & with six members of staff accounting for over 250 years of service!!) the Company is poised for further growth & strives to live up to its marketing tag line of “nice people to do business with”
