Cavanaghs of Fermoy was founded in 1919 by Mr. Tom Cavanagh Snr. The company became a proud Ford franchise in 1938, and under the leadership of his son Tom, continued to grow and serve the motoring needs of the local community. For decades, Mr. Cavanagh remained a guiding presence in the business, fondly known by many long-serving staff as “the Boss.”

In 1997, Managing Director Sean Barry led a management buyout and, in 2000, relocated the business from Ashe Quay to its current location on Cork Road. Though now retired, Sean remains a Director and Shareholder, with Frank Hogbin taking over as Dealer Principal in 2021.

Along with directors, Frank has continued to develop and grow the business. Celebrating over 100 years trading in 2019 and now employing 36 staff, all from local communities ( & with six members of staff accounting for over 250 years of service!!) the Company is poised for further growth & strives to live up to its marketing tag line of “nice people to do business with”.

Over the years, Cavanaghs has continued to evolve. In 2025, we proudly transitioned into a dedicated pre-owned car dealership, offering a wide selection of high-quality, fully serviced used vehicles. With over a century of experience behind us, we remain committed to the same values of trust, local service, and customer care that built our reputation.

Today, we employ 36 staff — all from local communities — and are proud to say that six of our team have over 250 years of combined service. We continue to grow while staying true to our tagline: “nice people to do business with.” Cavanaghs of Fermoy actively supports a wide range of local causes and community events, particularly in sport. We are a long-time sponsor of the Avondhu North Cork League and proudly provide a car each year in support of GAA activities in the region.
